Historical Fiction Experts!

 ~We really got our groove on this week talking about historical fiction!  We learned from each other about what makes historical fiction different from realistic fiction..... and what makes it different from nonfiction.  We have really read a lot of historical fiction this year: Milkweed, Number the Stars, Rose Blanche,  A Hero and The Holocaust, Behind the Bedroom Wall, and Erika's Story.  Even though The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is based or a real time in history, it is more fable because it could never have happened, and there is a clear moral to the story.

~If you are not sure whether a book is realistic fiction or historical fiction, think about the setting (time period).  Generally, if it sounds like it could a subject from Social Studies, is is probably historical fiction.

~The Apes are now experts on historical fiction!
