Congratulations to Edvin Beganovic! Edvin was our Star Student for January 25th. Edvin is a good kid and gets along with everybody! He also turns all of his work in on time.

We had a nice End of Month Luncheon for January. Thanks for the treats Mrs. Bridges (genuine hazelnut butter creams!) and Mrs. Felix (great brownies...I think I ate most of them!). You guys are awesome. We missed Jim and Gail Culbert. I realized that over the last two years, this was the first luncheon that they have missed, thanks for the great support. Thank you to Mrs. Mika for picking up our luncheon meal. Thank you also to Mr. and Mrs. Keller. They have attended every luncheon so far this year! We also enjoyed your company Mrs. Pritchard (hope you enjoy the book).
Room 71 also won the Golden Skate Award for January (again)! We had the most students and parents attend the PTA fundraiser.

We will begin work on our next writing assignment on Monday. We will be writing another Response to Literature, this time to a book about Wilma Rudolph, titled Wilma Unlimited. This books is about how she overcame great odds to be the best in the world. Look for our responses on the bulletin board soon.

A special thanks to Ellen Hartley - our Standards Coach, and Sue Simonelli - our school bookkeeper for purchasing some great book sets. We now have class sets of Number the Stars, Crash, and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. We plan to tackle Pajamas as soon as FCAT is over!

It looks like we had a tie in last months ROOM 71!POLL! Number the Stars and Maniac Magee tied with 18 votes each. It will be interesting to see if Milkweed or The Boy in the Striped Pajamas can top either of these books.

At the conclusion of Milkweed we will have completed our author study of Jerry Spinelli. We have read three books by this author, and have also met part of the reading standard!

Congratulations to Karon Gaspard! Mrs. Gaspard was voted as Beauclerc's Employee of the Year! Karon works real hard and deserves all the accolades she has received.

Don't forget to bring your baseball gloves on Wednesdays! We have been playing every Wednesday since we got back. It is awesome to see the teamwork and camaraderie of the students in Room 71. I honestly believe that baseball really brings out the best in people!

WELCOME BACK

Today was our first day back from Winter Break. We hope everyone enjoyed their time off. We will be finished with Number the Stars by Friday and we can add it to our 40 Book Count. On Monday we will begin working on the novel Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli.

New spelling lists, and new Read & respond forms will also go home on Monday the 7th of January.

Spelling lists will be posted on this blog every Monday.

We will begin our Response to Literature on The Children We Remember this week! What a shocking yet hopeful book!

Also, please start saving your money for our End of Year trip to Universal!
All money will be due most likely in mid March.

The mornings are very cold now, and it remains cold on many afternoons. If your child does not wear warm clothing when it is cold (shorts), they will not be allowed on the playground. A jacket is required for recess.
