~Well, since first grade we have been learning about the book genre FICTION! Today we discussed all the different sub groups under FICTION:
~We also learned that most fiction writers have one purpose in mind....... ENTERTAINMENT! Even though you may learn something from fiction, or it may persuade you sometimes, its generally to entertain you!
*fantasy - Harry Potter
*realistic fiction - Maniac Magee
*adventure - Hatchet
*science fiction - Animorphs
*tall tales - Johnny Appleseed
*mysteries - The Boxcar Children
*folktales - Tales of Uncle Remus
*fairy tales - Cinderella
*fables - The Three Little Pigs
*horror - Goosebumps
*romance - (Ms. Gay's favorite) Stargirl
*historical - And then What Happened Paul Revere?
~Most novels can be placed into more than one category, but there is generally one category that it fits mostly into. For example: The Boy in the Striped Pajamas could be considered historical fiction, fantasy and adventure. But, as Mr. Boyne tells us, it is mostly fable. Loser could be considered in the fiction category of adventure, but is mostly realistic fiction
