Competitive Running

~What a nice way to get back in the swing of things.... The Competitive Running Club ran three miles on beautiful Jacksonville Beach!  Theo, Karl Jr., and Mikayla improved their times dramatically since the first week of clubs!  If any students from Gibbons/Crawford would like to join us at The Hats Off Hustle 5k on September 29th at 6:30 PM click the link below for a fun filled 5k!

Our school Looks Great!

~After Hurricane Irma, San Pablo suffered a few broken tree limbs!  We will be back in business on Monday while the rest of the city recovers from flooding!  Our classrooms suffered no damage!  Mr. G. went to the beach today and the dunes protected us!  This is why you need to stay off the dunes!

Cancellations

~Thursday classes will be released at noon!  Classes for Friday and Monday have been cancelled due to Hurricane Irma!!  Stay safe!

Toliver Connections

~Most of the traditional outfits of the late 1700's were made of wool and cottons and occasionally silk!  There was no indoor plumbing so people did not shower like we do!  There was also no deodorant or air conditioning!  Add to that... gloves and WIGS!!!! Can you imagine how these people smelled and itched?

 ~Congratulations to STAR Students Ashton (Luigi) and Jake (Yatez) for being named this week's STAR Students!  They both worked hard, completed all assignments, got along with their classmates, and participated in class!  

End of Month Luncheon

~On Thursday September 28, we will be having our monthly End of Month Luncheon!  All children who meet their AR goal of 4 books, have at least a B in citizenship, and have taken care of their academic business at school are invited with a parent to a pizza buffet luncheon. Lunch will be provided!  September and November luncheon, parents are invited!  October and December are just for students.  If your child has handled his or her business, an invitation will come home 3-4 days in advance!  Our first luncheon will be on the 28th of September!  Most luncheons will be on Thursdays due to no resource on that day!  Hopefully, we will see you in 4 weeks!  Here are some pictures from Luncheons past!

~We are reading Love That Dog, and learning some pretty interesting facts about poetry, Robert Frost, and Edgar Allen Poe.  Not to mention we created some pretty interesting free verse poems about ourselves posted in and out of Room 16!

Our poor apples!!

~As you can see, our poor apples have not faired well in various spots around the room!  We are already on day 5, and we can smell them through the bag...and they look hideous!  We have collected some incredible data and are ready to be done!

~Be on the lookout for some awesome recipes for sandwich making in Room 16!  We are learning about steps in a process in order to read and write directions effectively!

Fun in Science

 We are conducting observations of fruit in class!  We are trying to figure out the best place in class to keep a piece of fruit (control) fresh.  Each student chose a different place in the class (independent variable) to store his or her fruit.  Depending on the spot, we are already seeing minor changes in our control subjects (apple). We are collecting data over the week to compare our dependent variables (outcomes)..... Hopefully, our class will not stink of rotten fruit on Monday!
