Pickle Swap

~After our End of Month Luncheon (all you can eat pizza buffet) we had Pickle Swap!  Ask your kids, they will explain it to you!  Needless to say we had some awesome prizes... an organic Mr. Potato Head, dancing monkeys, a years supply of jelly beans, a combinable purring lion, a vintage cabbage patch baby, among other things.  It was a fun way to celebrate an awesome first half to our year...and end to 2016!  Mr. G will be out of town until the 8th of January! See you on January 9th!

Gingerbread Houses - The Final Product

 ~A big THANK YOU to Mary Frances Peck for spending her day wth us and making sure we went home with quality gingerbread houses for our tables at home!  She also suppled all the platters, graham crackers, utensils, and table cloths! Thanks to all the parents of Rooms 11 & 13 for sending in all the supplies!

 ~One of Santa's elves has donated stockings for all the APES of Rooms 11 & 13!  If you wish to send in small treats, please send them in by Wednesday, so we can leave them out for Santa's elves to fill them at night when we are all snug in our beds!

 ~Big thanks to our PTA for all the rewards that came along with our Walkathon!  Today's luncheon was for the top fundraisers!  We raised a lot of money...and all that money will be spent on the students of San Pablo!  We love our PTA!

Spelling Bee

~Congratulations to Caleb who came in THIRD place in the Annual Spelling Bee for the entire school!  All the kids from Rooms 11& 13 did awesome and made it to at least the fifth round!  Way to go Ella, Caitly, Katia, Caleb, Domenic, Hanna, Seth, and Scarlet!

Goodbye Caleb

 ~We said our final goodbyes to our good friend and classmate Caleb (Cable) Appling!  He was an awesome student and we will see him when he visits his sister in Jacksonville! Mr. Gibbons and Mrs. Goodman will miss you buddy!

Spelling Bee

 ~Congratulations to Scarlet, Caitlyn, Ella, Katia, Domenic, Seth, Hanna, and Caleb!  They will represent Rooms 11 & 13 in the school wide spelling bee next Friday!  Study lists will go home Monday!

Holiday Shop Opening Soon!!!!

~Starting Monday the 12th our PTA will be opening up its Holiday Shop in the Media Center!  All items will be sold at cost....as in CHEAP PRICES!  Flyers went home this week!  Kids can shop daily! A great inexpensive and convenient way for kids to accomplish their Christmas shopping!

Awesome Runners

~Congratulation to Alison who finished first in her age group and 4th overall and Travis who finished 3rd in his age and 12th overall in the Jingle Bell Run 5K to benefit the American Arthritis Foundation!  We got some really cool shirts too...Way to go Apes!

Connections: Holocaust- Child Victims

Children were especially vulnerable in the era of the Holocaust. The Germans and their collaborators killed as many as 1.5 million children, including over a million Jewish children and tens of thousands of Romani (Gypsy) children, German children with physical and mental disabilities living in institutions, Polish children, and children residing in the occupied Soviet Union. In the ghettos, Jewish children died from starvation and exposure as well as lack of adequate clothing and shelter. Because children were generally too young to be deployed at forced labor, German authorities generally selected them, along with the elderly, ill, and disabled, for the first deportations to killing centers, or as the first victims led to mass graves to be shot. Upon arrival at Auschwitz-Birkenau and other killing centers, the camp authorities sent the majority of children directly to the gas chambers. In concentration camps, SS physicians and medical researchers used many children, including twins, for medical experiments that often resulted in the deaths of the children.

Between 1938 and 1940, the Kindertransport(Children's Transport) was the informal name of a rescue effort which brought thousands of refugee Jewish children (without their parents) to safety in Great Britain from Nazi Germany and German-occupied territories. Across Europe, some non-Jews hid Jewish children and sometimes, as in the case of Anne Frank, hid other family members as well. After the surrender of Nazi Germany in May 1945, ending World War II, refugees and displaced persons searched throughout Europe for missing children. Thousands of orphaned children were in displaced persons camps.
