~We are really cruising through Milkweed! Misha, Kuba, Jon, Enos, Henryk, Ferdi, and other boys have been discovered on the Aryan side of the ghetto and marched in their own parade into the ghetto. Uri somehow escaped the roundups. He always seems to escape trouble. After many months in the ghetto food has become scarce. Misha and the other orphans must find food. Death and disease have become part of their everyday life. After a few months, Jon (Gray Jon) has died from what he can only assume is typhus. Misha has experienced his first "Aktion" in the courtyard. Big Henryk is caught by the "flops" and Uri comes to the rescue. Uri has to make sure Misha no longer bothers and teases the flops... and he has to do it the hard way! Sadly, Misha discovers that Himmler is not the big strong Super Nazi that he believed he was...he looks like a younger version of Uncle Shepsel! Himmler and Dr. Korczak are the two character in the book who are actually people from history. Himmler was in charge of the ghettos, the camps, and basically in charge of the Jews. He is the Number 2 Jackboot! Dr. Korczak was a real doctor in Poland who was an author, a soldier, and a radio star among other things. He opened an orphanage and gave up all his fame and fortune to help homeless children in Poland.
