Reading Kick Off

~J.J. the Jaguar visited us today as part of our Reading Kick Off!  He came in his camper and picked up a book from each class.  

Maniac Magee & Inferring

~Wow, we are really cruising through Maniac Magee!  It seems like yesterday when he ran away from Dot and Dan's.  We have really had to make a lot of inferences in this novel about what is going on.  Based on the Treasure Hunts, the APES are really getting the things that Jerry Spinelli is trying to get across.  So far he has been run out of Two Mills by both Black and White gangs, run out if Bridgeport by his aunt and uncle, and he has become quite the runner.  We should finish our first novel next week...WOW!

~Rest in Peace Earl Grayson!  You lived a great life!  You struck out Willie Mays...... you kept the zoo clean, and you gave a young homeless orphan a sense of belonging......  Some of the Ape boys were overcome with sadness...... What will Maniac do next?  Will he give up?  Will he go back to Dot and Dan... or the Beales home?

~This week's Word Study test will be moved to Tuesday, Sept. 4th to accommodate those students who were absent this week... and due to lack of time on Friday..... you have a few extra days... use the time wisely!

Cobble's Knot

~We turn on the news and what do we see..... a girl with blonde hair that looks familiar to me.  She is reading the news like a pro from CNN........ hey look it's Kalya and she's reading again!

~We had fun reading about Jeffrey and Cobble's Knot.  After many many years someone (guess who) has finally untangled it... and he wins pizza for a year!  Everyone should love him now...... but they do not...... one side of Hector has the Cobras waiting to beat him up and eat his pizza, the other side has Mars Bar and his gang waiting to beat him up and eat his pizza

Happy Birthday Kay!

~Happy Birthday Kay!  Thanks to her Mom and her good neighbor friend who made some awesome and delicious cupcakes!  We auctioned off the leftovers....and boy did they bid high for them!

Taking a STAR Test

~Today all the Apes took a STAR test.  This is a computer generated test which helps the teachers along with the DRA to give each student a reading level.  Also....... is that an APE doing the news every morning on Beauclerc Broadcast?  Yes..... looking good Axel!

Open House

~Open House is scheduled for Thursday August 30, at 6:30 P.M. Please...if possible,  leave students at home.  This is an opportunity for Mr. Gibbons and Mrs. Goodman to talk to parents about what is expected of students, parents, and teachers.  This night is set aside to discuss general practices and procedures of Rooms 71 and 73 that pertain to ALL students.  If you would like to discuss your individual child, there will be an opportunity to set up a conference.  We look forward to meeting ALL of the Ape Parents!!

Connection Section: Tornadoes

~This coming week we will be learning about tornadoes!  Here are some videos off the news to show you how violent these storms can be..... watch how it just rips the roof off one house like it's made of paper.

Earn $$ for Box Tops!

~The Apes came home today with teal forms to be filled up with Box Tops for Education.  Once the form is filled up (30), Apes will get $5 in their Ape Bank accounts, and the school will earn valuable materials. Kylene already has a form filled up with 30.
