New Word Study: World War One

1. weapon (n.)-something used to inflict damage or harm to others. During WWI, new technology created devastating weapons.

2. technology (n.)- the use of new inventions to create new things.
 

3. truce (n.)- cease fire; armistice; when both sides agree to stop fighting for a period of time.

4. armistice (n.) - when both sides agree to stop fighting until a treaty can be signed.
 

5. trench (n.) - a deep ditch used during war time.

 6. devastation (n.) - destruction, death
 

7. chemical (n.) - a product created by mixing different elements. Chemicals such as mustard gas were used in WWI.
 

8. revolution (n.) - a complete and total change in government. An example would be the Russian Revolution of 1917.  They went from having a king to a communist government.
 

9. Europe (n.) - a continent in the northern hemisphere.  Most of WWI was fought here. Some countries in Europe are England, France, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, Russia, and Austria/Hungary.
10.ally (n.) - friend; to associate or connect with; part of an alliance.  We agree to help each other in times of need or war.
