PLOT
~If someone asks you what the "plot" of a story is, you cannot answer the question in one sentence!
I used the Wizard Of Oz to demonstrate the elements of PLOT. You can use any story to talk about plot. If there is not a problem or conflict... you do not have much of a plot!
1. Exposition is generally the setting and what happens at the beginning of the story. Fore example: In the story of the Wizard of Oz, a girl runs away from her farm home in Kansas because nobody understand her.
2. Rising Action is most of the story in which the characters lead up to the main conflict. For example: In the Wizard of Oz, Dorothy lands in Munchkin Land, kills the Wicked Witch of the East, meets the scarecrow, lion, and tinman, and they all get to Oz where Dorothy finds out she must kill the Wicked Witch of the West.
3. Climax is when the problem reaches a high point and the main characters deal with their problem. For example: Dorothy is rescued by her friends, dumps water on the witch, and DING DONG, she is dead.
4. Falling Action is when the story is winding down. For example: This is when the witch's guards cheer Dorothy. She carries the broom back to Oz and Glinda reminds her that she had the power all along to go back him. She clicks her heals three times and BOOM she is back in Kansas.
5. Resolution: This is how things end up, or what lesson has been learned. For example: Dorothy is glad to be back home and she realizes how much her aunt and uncle truly love her.
