~We started Milkweed this week...we are already on Chapter 8! The Apes are loving the naive but lovable Stopthief (who is now a gypsy boy named Misha thanks to a story created by Uri). We used all our background knowledge and connections to figure out that we are right at the beginning of WWII because there are bombs (boom booms according to Uri) dropping all over the place...then there are huge parades of soldiers and tanks.
~ I came across this picture of REAL Jewish orphans in Warsaw from 1939. It made me think of Misha Pilsudski, Olek, Kuba, Ferdi, and Big Henryk! Notice the dark skin of the boy in front... it made me think of Misha...except Misha was a lot lot smaller.
