Art, History, and Appreciation of the Military!
~Today we learned some new Art forms with Ms. Grasley. We learned about Andy Warhol and pop art. We also learned about psychedelic art forms from the late 60's, and graffiti which can be art also! Ms. Grasley tied all this in to our study of Richard Nixon, Vietnam, LBJ, the Cvil Rights Act and a man landing on the moon. We used these art forms to make Valentine cards for American soldiers stationed in other countries. In these cards, we let them know that we appreciate them and are thinking about them! Awesome job Ms. G!

Working on our Project!
~Many Apes are working on their final drafts for the Holocaust Memorial, while some are finishing up their rough drafts. Below are Cam and Jesse's final drafts. Kind of fitting today, seeing that a major government official in Egypt today stated that the Holocaust was a hoax. This is why we MUST memorialize these victims, so it DOES NOT happen again.

What are we doing in WRITING?
~Here is Kim's rough draft of her Holocaust Memorial Writing Project. Each child is creating a memorial to remember either a survivor or one who perished (died) in the Holocaust. We are doing this with the hope that as the victims begin to die of old age, the world NEVER FORGETS! Her final draft of this memorial, along with all the Apes writing, will be on display outside of Rooms 71 &73 beginning next week.
Happy Birthday Judge!
~Tomorrow is David's birthday! Happy Birthday Judge David! Thanks for the treats Ms. Singleton! You rock!

January's End of Month Luncheon!
~Don't forget that tomorrow's Luncheon is at 11:45. Feel free to bring a dessert if you like. Lunch is on us! Please make sure you check in at the office first........ If you did not get an invitation........ your child has not read his or her 28 books, and does not get the extra reward. The district goal is 14 books, and students were rewarded with the JEA show and Giants tickets for reading 14 books. Luncheon is for those student who have gone above and beyond...28 books. When you do extra... you get extra! February's goal is 32 books.... that is a book a week. If you are signing the Read & Respond form every night...you child should be at 28 books or higher.
Jacksonville Giants Free Ticket!
~Each Ape that has read at least 14 books received a flyer like the one below! This flyer is actually a ticket to either Friday's or Saturday's Giants games at the Veteran's Memorial Coliseum. The flyer gets you in free! Rumor has it that one of the Ape teachers is going to be at the Saturday game at noon. The Giants games are really high scoring games that are a lot of fun!
Holocaust Memorial Project
~Our Holocaust Memorial Project is coming along nicely. Many of the Apes finished their rough drafts this week and will begin their final drafts to put with their personal memorial to a survivor or a victim of the Holocaust! Each project will be posted in the hallways outside of Rooms 71 and 73 beginning February 1st. Come by and see them...... they will be awesome!
