Greek Latin Roots Word Study


~We are actually having fun figuring out the meanings of words.  We figured out that once you know the Latin or Greek origin, you can figure out most words.  Here are this week's Word Study words.

(mono) one
  1. monogram - n. one letter
  2. monotone - adj.- one sound or tone
  3. monochromatic - adj. - one color: different shades of one color
  4. monorail- n. - a train that runs on one track
(bi) two
  1. bicycle - n. - a two wheeled compound machine
  2. bicentennial - adj. - 2  hundred year anniversary
  3. bicep - n. - two muscles of the upper arm

(tri) three
  1. triathlete - n.- an athlete that swims, runs, and bikes in the same competition
  2. triangle - n.- a three sided shape with three angles (two dimensional) 
  3. tricentennial - adj.- having to do with anything that has a 300 year anniversary.
