Presidential Connection Section

Did you know?  The APES do!

 *He was not elected! He became President when Harrison died (he was the VP).  His own party did not like him when it became clear he was proslavery, and he did not get re-elected.


 *"Manifest Destiny" became reality under his Presidency, the USA stretched from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean.


 *He was beloved by the common man, and was extremely popular.  He was responsible for the "Indian Removal Act" which forced all Native Americans to leave their lands and move to Oklahoma. "The Trail of Tears".


 *Became the scapegoat for the Depression of 1837, first President to be photographed.


*Spent less than a month as President before he died of pneumonia which was a result of his extremely long outdoor acceptance speech in cold Washington, DC, his Vice President John Tyler would proceed him.
