*There is NO SCHOOL Friday!
*You must choose your LIVING MUSEUM person by Thursday morning.
*Has anyone seen Dylan's crazy odd looking personal desk jacko'lantern? Feel free to bring in your own!
*We finished CRASH, as part of our author study (which is required if fifth graders). About 25% chose it as their favorite book of all time, while about 50% still chose Maniac Magee.
*We will begin our Genre Study of World War II and the Holocaust on Monday, October 27th, as this is mandated by the state. It will last at least two months, and will be incorporated into the standard Duval County curriculum. Everyone is excited. We will begin learning about the causes of World War I, then to the Roaring Twenties, Depression, The New Deal, Pearl Harbor, the Nazification of Germany, The Systematic Annihilation of European Jewry, the ghettos, the camps, Extermination, The War in the Pacific, Hiroshima, and finally Liberation and the AFTERMATH which still effects us today. If you have any interesting artifacts or books you would like to share with us, it would be appreciated.
Nobody is more excited than Mr. Gibbons!
*Our next novel will be NUMBER THE STARS by Lois Lowry. We will begin this book in approximately two weeks. This is the story of two young girls are forced to be brave in the face of evil. This will be our second Newbery Award winning book.
*You must be at 9 books by the 30th of October. If you add in the ones we read together, it is 15 books. WOW! Can you believe it? We have read 9 books individually, and 6 novels as a class.
*We have P.E. on Fridays, please dress appropriately. Any children wearing heels will not be allowed to attend P.E. on Fridays, or recess daily. It is a safety issue.
*Special thanks to Mrs. Gaspard for all her help in Science, and to Mrs. Gay in Math!
*Due to the short week, there will be no STAR Student this week.
Former Gibbons Ape Ashley has become a middle school softball STAR! I wonder if she got any of her skills from APE softball?
