~Thanks to everyone who came out to Open House! Maniac Update!

~We are really grooving in Maniac Magee!  Jerry Spinelli is a master at using figurative language (simile, metaphor, alliteration) to make his novels more engaging!  Mr. G is having a blast listening to the Apes model awesome reading during our Guided Group time! Jeffrey is an orphan again!  he has gone on to Valley Forge.  He has given up on life and is tired of being an orphan. Where will he go from here?

The Perfect Storm

~Did you know there was a tsunami in Jacksonville!  We are writing about and learning about natural disasters.  Our first writing project is a narrative about a tsunami (tidal wave) that hits the First Coast.  Our focus will be on using figurative language to engage the reader....  Our beginnings are awesome!

Rest in Peace Earl Grayson!

~One of our beloved characters from Maniac Magee, Earl Grayson, passed away in his sleep today.  You can read his obituary below.  Students were asked to pull evidence form the text to write an obituary celebrating his life.  We had fun sharing our writing with each other and sharing pointers and evidence from the text!  We had to console Skye and Zach.... they were both overcome with grief.
