~Esperanza finally made it to America. Ms. Ryan, the author, really makes her text interesting with the use of figurative language. Her idioms are off the chain! Her metaphors are the bomb. Her similes are like smooth chocolate melting in your mouth, and her personifications are just jumping off the pages! We love Esperanza. Marta is as sweet as a pickle left out in the sun in July!

Coming to America!
~They had to leave Abuelita behind! Esperanza and her Mama are headed to the Unites States to find a new life and work in California! There was nothing left for them at Ranchero del las Rosas after Papa died, the house burned down, and the vineyard was destroyed. We discovered that Ms. Ryan, the author, is a huge fan of figurative language!
Swim America day 1
~Today was Day 1 of Swim America! We learned how to float in water just in case we are ever stranded away rom shore. We also learned how to conserve energy by doing the dead man's float in case of emergency. We also learned the basic swimming stroke! Thanks for helping out U.S. Navy, Mrs. Gilboy, Mr. Park and Mr. Fogg!
