Universal Studios
~The deadline for Universal Studios was this past Wednesday! If you want to go, you can still turn in the money. We will stop taking money on Monday the 4th. if money is an issue, please contact Mr. Gibbons and we can work something out! Mr. Gibbons and Mrs. Goodman do not want anyone missing out due to finances. If your child just does not like rides, it is probably a good idea to not go.....
Vietnam War - Simplified!

Goodbye Max (Mighty) and Freak (Kevin)
~We finished reading Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick today! What an awesome novel! Kevin passed away in the end. His story of getting a new bionic robotic body was all made up. He created this story to protect his friend Max from the truth of his condition. Kevin knew from an early age that he would not live a long life. This was an awesome story of friendship and perseverance.

Ax Handle Saturday
~While learning about the early 1950's today in Social Studies, we learned about an event in Jacksonville from over 55 years ago that would change our city forever. This day would become known as Ax Handle Saturday. A group of young civil rights activists sat at a lunch counter in downtown Jacksonville only to be met with angry mobs wielding ax handles. This event would lead to the desegregation of Jacksonville's lunch counters downtown. This would lead to the eventual desegregating of our neighborhoods, schools, and businesses. Thank you to all those who had the courage to stand up and risk their lives to make our city a better place.

Killer Kane!
~Max's father got paroled from prison and he is BACK! On Christmas Eve, max woke up to a chill in the air... and a hand over his mouth! Killer Kane has come to get his child back! We also inferred that he is in prison for killing Max's mother! So much drama for one book!
~We also learned how fragile Kevin's (Freak's) health is at this point in the novel. He choked on some macaroni and had to be rushed to the hospital! He is back home and feeling better! Max would be lost without him right now!

Cursive in the Classroom
~Recently, the APES were asked to sign their names with a SIGNATURE. It was amazing to discover that the overwhelming majority of the APES did not know how to write in cursive. We learned a little bit today...and how every letter has a connector! Mrs. Goodman and Mr. Gibbons were fascinated at how fast everyone caught on!
