News & Notes:
~Open House is at 6:00 PM on Thursday! Open House is an opportunity for parents to meet the teachers and to discuss academic and classroom expectations. This night is for parents. We prefer that students stay home, as there will not be enough room.
~School begins at 8:30. Students coming into class at 8:35 and 8:45 are a HUGE disruption. Our day begins at 8:30. Any student arriving after 8:30 is late.
~If your child forgets his or her lunch, homework, backpack or any other materials needed for school, please DO NOT bring them to school after this week. One of our goals is to teach children responsibility before they go to middle school. When they forget materials, they are less likely to forget them again if they are held accountable for their actions.

Volcanoe Disaster
~We are really grooving in Volcano Disaster. We are focusing on dialogue and how to recognize when the speaker changes. And yes.... the Instant Commuter does work. Mistakenly, Warren has wound up on Mount Saint Helen.... the day it erupted in 1980!
~Many of us broke into our groups today to do some cooperative reading!~

Where are we?
We located the 7 continents of the world and identifies some of the countries of Beauclerc students. We discovered England and Albania are in Europe. Egypt and Rwanda are in Africa. Mexico and the USA are in North America. Brazil and Argentina are in South America. China, Japan, and the Philippines are in Asia. The South Pole is on Antarctica, and Australia is in Oceania. There will be a quiz on Friday!
Already flying through our novel!
We are currently reading Volcano Disaster as a group. This novel takes a young fifth grader back in time to 1980 when Mount Saint Helens erupted. This novel is very engaging and occasionally funny! We are reading the novel as a play with main characters, minor characters, and a narrator.
~After we read together, we apply what we have read to complete our Treasure Hunt! We pull evidence from the text to support our inferences and generalizations.
Happy Birthday!
~Happy Birthday Kristopher and Steven! Thanks for the treats to celebrate our birthdays!

One down, 179 to go!
~Our first day of our last year at Beauclerc is complete. Our day could not have gone smoother! We know the end of the day was a little chaotic.... but it only gets better. If you gave a car ride, I would come after 3:45 the entire first week, 3:30 the second week, and 3:15 after that. If you come early...you just wait longer!
~If you haven't noticed, our theme this year is Dr. Seuss!
~If your child is a walker, PLEASE wait across the street on Craven Road. Coming over to the bike rack area just causes chaos and confusion, and makes it difficult for the younger ones to find their older siblings.
~Your child brought home their homework form today. It must be signed nightly in order to avoid a $5 fine from your child's in-class bank account!
